Doing so will cut down on your energy usage, and costs, for the lifetime of the appliance -- 10 years or more in many cases.
Energy Star currently certifiesdishwashersandrefrigerators and freezers. The refrigerator is typically the biggest electricity user in the house (though flat-screen TVs are giving the old fridge a run foryourmoney), so be sure to choose wisely.
